Behind the motifs: Meet designer Tim Hansson

Tim Hansson lives in the town of Eslöv, in the southern part of Sweden, with his wife, son, dog and soon, a little daughter as well. He works for a travel company, and in addition to that, he also has two companies of his own: one focusing on football training for young people in his home county, and one company centred around graphic design. He describes himself as a football-mad father with far too much energy.

Combining sports and design

Tim has found his own design style, where he combines two of his great interests — sports and design — and he finds his inspiration from any number of places.

"My art is simplistic with attempts to combine sports, art and design in my own way. Either I get an idea from a photograph of a footballer, or I get inspiration from magazines, catalogues and social media, and I try to apply that to a work of art. I design everything using Adobe software on my MacBook. I mainly use Adobe Illustrator", he says.

Undiscovered target audience

That Tim started designing posters was mainly a coincidence and not anything he had any grand plans for, but then his art unexpectedly received great praise.

"I started doing my posters mostly to fill a hall that my wife, mother and friend had during the art tour in the southern part of Sweden, but they were so well received by an undiscovered target audience. So if they hadn't made me do that, this would never have happened", he explains.

Taught both by others and himself

Tim is trained in design but has also done some developing as a designer on his own.

"I'm a qualified designer, but the interest in design did not come until my final year of upper secondary school. Before that, I had mostly played around with Photoshop at a young age, like so many others. Many of the program skills I have are self-taught", he says.

When Tim creates, he wants to do it in silence, which tends to be during the later hours of the day, when things are finally calming down around the house.

"I create most of my works late at night, when my son has fallen asleep, and it is usually quiet and peaceful around me", he says.
